In either case, This doohickey is a called an RSS Feed Link. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication.

Click on it. Go ahead, it won't hurt you or take you anywhere strange.
By clicking on this square you can, in essence, "subscribe" to LakeForestMark.com.
New posts to the blog will be "pushed" to your RSS reader (there are several listed) and enables you to get the latest postings delivered to you, simply.
I have my RSS feeds come to my Outlook, which has, for good or bad, become the center of my information universe.
You can also have the feed saved as a bookmark in your firefox browser.
