First Time Home Buyer's Tax Credit Alert! - Furlough day could affect eligibility!

Hello Lake Forest Parkers and Seattlites in general:

Just a reminder for  first time home buyers looking to purchase in KING COUNTY…you will want to be closed BY WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 24th as a precautionary measure to ensure that they get the benefit of the $8,000 tax credit which is currently only good with fundings/closings through 11/30/09.

Furlough day could affect home-buyer tax credit

It recently came to our attention that King County, in keeping with standard practice of scheduling furlough days in conjunction with federal holiday weekends, chose the day before Thanksgiving, Nov. 25, as a mandatory furlough day for county employees.  This would normally have the standard inconvenience factor of a typical county furlough day.  However, due to the first time homebuyer tax credit, currently set to expire at midnight on Nov. 30, this furlough day raises major concerns for our industry.

We have contacted King County regarding the federal first time home-buyer tax credit.  The county is now working on possible solutions to address processing needs to meet the Dec. 1 deadline and help to ensure first time buyers will be able to qualify for the tax credit.

To help avoid this problem altogether, we continue to urge members to contact their members of Congress http://www.mbaks.com/mbaks3c.cfm?SectionGroupsID=113&SectionListsID=256&PageID=2537 and ask them to extend the federal tax credit.

All the best,
